Description

This is a rare weapon, since only about 150 were ever made before the engineer/creator passed away. By no means is this piece a "sniper's gun", as it has a 2.5x scope on it. (Fifty caliber sniper weapons, and those used in the 1000 Yard Club of shooters usually have between 20 and 50 power scopes.) So what could be hunted with a .50 BMG cartridge? Aside from the flippant "Whatever one wants to hunt!", moose come to mind. I knew a fellow who lived in Alaska, in the bush. He explained that one or two moose fed his dogs all year, and he sold the racks and hides. (A true hunter, him.) Also, it served against the rare incursion of a Grizzly/Brown Bear, when he couldn't reach a mere large-caliber rifle to defend himself or his dogs. This particular gun can be shoulder fired, although it comes with a bipod, making it a very unusual .50 BMG rifle (alomst all must be fired from prone). With very space age or avant-garde looks, it is just over a yard in length! It is single-shot. (My friend has invited me to shoot it, but as yet I have not had time to accept. Alas.) The two cartridges in the photo are a Spotter's Round (top) and a "Practice" round (the bottom, blue one). The latter gives only a fraction of normal recoil, with all the muzzle blast and noise of a "real" shot. Although shooting a plastic bullet, it is quite lethal (having almost the same killing power as a .45-70 bullet -- my ballistics research and numbers crunching). NB: If someone wanted to create a model of one for renders, contact me. I'd like to thank all who give this page a look. Leave a comment, eh? (Just no anti-gun, anti-hunting, politically correct stuff. This is not an editorial page. Thanks.) A great big Thanks to all of you who have favorited me or one of my submissions.

How dare you post this instrument of death.....! I'm just kidding! Wow this is amazing, and I reckon the top round would bring down something the size of an elephant, or Tiger tank! It's a beast. You would want to be holding it correctly when it went off or I bet you would end up in the house next door! Great post.

I'm told it has the kick of two .30-06s. When I try it, I'll update this page. Even if I have to type with one hand! ;P

Just make sure you have top-of-the-line hearing protection when you touch that beast off. Good earplugs and muffs both. The muzzle blast on that thing has got to be...intense just doesn't seem enough. As to the "what to hunt" question: dinosaurs...or dragons. Hugs to you and Lea

I didn't know such a tiny BMG was ever made. I hope that's a ---good--- brake on there, or you'll have a hurtin' shoulder. If a grizzly was coming after me, the only thing I'd want more than this gun is a fully automatic version of it.

Amazing, not exactly an oil painting, it looks a bit rough around the edges...but you don't want an oil painting at a gunfight..

So did you ever get to touch one off? A .50 BMG is actually a naturally very hot round, I gotta wonder if this beast has enough metal to tame the recoil. Great photo, thanks for sharing.
