Description

Oh no, what is Harry, with his penchant for extreme variety, up to now? Just a few pics, captured early this year by my nephew, a recent graduate of the University of Hawaii, who, because he couldn't find employment in his field in the United States, accepted a temporary job teaching English to a group of youngsters in the capital of our former enemy. What can I say? Bill/bmac62 should find this interesting. Much better viewed full size. I found most interesting all the motorbikes and Vespa scooters in the top two fotos, plus that riot of cables and wires in pics #3 and 4. My nephew, Tomas, periodically sends me his SLR photos, all oversized, unprocessed and unpostworked, leaving me to perform the enviable task of bringing them up to display standards, and has granted me permission to show these, just as long as I give him credit for taking them. He hasn't identified the downtown Hanoi streets, but has identified some of the exhibits. He lives mainly a Spartan existence, living on food stuffs such as beer and fish, including whole fried squid, an unfavorite of mine. Anyway, this is the first of several collages in re Hanoi and environs, and am wondering if any of the many Renderosity world travelers, such as beachzz, meisiekind, danapommet and myrrhluz, have been to this city. Sayonara, thanks for popping in, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.

Wonderful shots! Thanks to your nephew for sending them and to you for processing them. These are fascinating. The only Asian country I've been to is Japan. When I was there, which was 30 years ago, I saw some motorcycles and scooters which were convenient in the horrible traffic around Tokyo, but nothing like this. Just imagine if all those bikes were cars, how jammed the traffic would be. Those utility cables really grabbed my attention. That must be a headache to figure out when one of them needs repairing. Very interesting images!

Unbelievable - to us anyway! - who are so used to the lanes actually being painted on (see nothing in pic 1), only blue signs above, for centre, left & right turns ... hmmm, let's hope THEY (on bikes) indicate or ? the mind boggles - what an intricate wiring system - you got to laugh ... Thanks for the eyeopener Harry, BB (PS at second glance - the are some very faint lines, ooops !)

Oh my, what tangled web of lines; rather a visual impediment to those of us who prefer our 'scapes uncluttered, but a photo-worthy sight themselves, if only as a record of how NOT to build things. The scooters are cool, at least accidents with them would probably not be as often fatal as some of the ones with big heavy autos and trucks, unless of course that's what they collide with. I think I'd stay off their roads, from what I've seen of their driving habits it's anything goes and the ones with the most chutzpah wins! Great work getting these shots post-worthy, Harry!

A great collection of interesting captures. It is a wonder the phones work at all with that tangle of lines. Excellent post work on these captures.

Fantastic collage of interesting shots. So many motorbikes and scooters at all, I have not seen yet and I think that every German electrician who sees this cable clutter would collapse.

Ah yes, the 'Shareshot' thing..... I'm not going to voice my opinion Harry on this idea by the Rendo people.. (And will not..sorry..) BUT, ass for the shots, hugely interesting, can't say I've ever seen Hanoi shots before.. As always a great collage creation, good work! Rob

Never been to Vietnam and as you are - just blown away at the number of scooters and motorbikes. I guess that would keep gas prices down. The telephone wiring is very scary and Tomas is a lucky guy to be able to E-mail you anything with that spagetti style wirung scheme. These are great shots Harry and I hope that he sends you more.
