Description

This painting was done as part of an online workshop and exhibition: http://www.redbubble.com/groups/solo-exhibition/forums/12954/topics/218849-sojie-12-workshop?page=1 Artists were asked to pair up with photographers to create their translation of a selected photograph. I based this painting on a photograph by Brian Pelkey: http://www.redbubble.com/people/bpelkey1/art/4484345-dance-of-the-trout I was captivated by the amazing dynamic action he captured and by the serenity of a frozen moment. As you can see, I added my own spin on it:) The painting is done on Arches 140lbs, cold press. The size of the original is 21x14inch.

A fabulous work with such an imaginative feel to it. I love how you have done the water with all the effects and reflections in it and the little girl is beautiful teaching the trout. An outstanding and beautiful work.

i had to look again at the original before commenting. looking at this piece again, i'm struck by how you changed the composition. making the fish face away from each other, emphasizing the ripples, and bringing their curve up out of the plane of the water not only connects the fish more strongly to the sky but gives a strong feeling of the infinity symbol. the reflection increases the impression of balance within the piece, while the figure above it makes it more playful and airy. being a Pisces, i can't help but love how you made the image more metaphorical and a mythological.
