Hmm.... I'm a computer scientist who has started to work in 3D lately... it is fun... But basically I'm a computer scientist and not really an artist... so don't expect so great things from me... The only difference that might be in me is that I tried to save some humanity in me by not indulging myself so much in science like a mechanical or electromechanical robot which I found many people turned or turning into in my university life. But if you look at me... you might confuse me with a Taliban soldier... :P

yup it is a ball. Have no idea about the render time.

Excellent and creative image here, great textures and lighting! Nice to see you posting!

Sure is a lonely ball, why 10 minutes indeed... What processes are running in the BG hogging all your resources. Vista is a resource hungry program.. Windows Seven is not as bad.. Nice to see you are still around and haven't forgotten us plebs my friend..

fantastic lighting here

Awesome creation.

Well, I hope you did the exact same render test on your older processor first... Then you'd have a benchmark reference to judge by, for render speed comparisons between your older and newer processor... Same goes for your other 3d renders - if you wrote down / logged the render times for them... Then try re-rendering the same scenes on the new processor... If its a newer processor, it should be more efficient and superior to the older CPU, but sometimes that is not always the situation. My 3yr old Intel Q6600 2.4ghz Quad-core is still superior to say a brand new Intel I3, and equal to a low-to-mid-range Intel I5 for rendering power. If this was a CPU chip upgrade on the same machine (replacing the older chip) it may be a matter of needing to update your windows drivers (motherboard chipset), as well as go into the settings of your 3d rendering program and check to see if there's a setting for number of CPU Cores or Maximum Threads. Lastly, maybe its entirely your perception... I mean, you got a new CPU processor, and decided to try a very intensive render scene you put together to see what it could do... And maybe it doesn't seem or feel its rendering as fast as you had expected it to (or not a big enough increase / improvement over your older CPU processor) Honestly, even though its a small scene, you have to look at the technical render aspects (rendering calculations): - HDRI ? - Reflections? - Refractions? - Blurry Reflections? - Light through Transparency - Caustics? - Ray Tracing Depth I'd say 10 minutes honestly isn't that bad for a scene like that. The ceiling light is hitting the spherical ball - that's semi transparent (the bright spot directly underneath and slightly behind the ball), solid enough that its casting a shadow, but also reflecting the end of the room, while amplifying the light being cast at it to the surrounding floors and walls... I'd also say to include / post some more information about your system(s) setup when you upload a new render. What was your old Processor, what is your new Processor, and if its a whole new machine or just a chip upgrade on the existing machine. We do use different rendering programs, but regardless, even in Carrara, no two scene renders at the same speed. Some scenes are blazingly fast, and some can take almost 24hrs. The difference is in the "knowing & understanding why" certain scenes take longer than others to render. Cool render though :)

Cool looking ball. Love the reflections and shadows. No idea about the render time - is it your settings? Sometimes it's the lighting - the more lights the slower it takes. Just a theory...
