Description
* That was very realistic though: Elizabeth wasn't any cute indeed, she was an amount of little bones hidden and enclosed within clothes who once were brown coloured, but once that sun got them discoloured, they were having no colour; clothes with long arms, and that cup always on her head, and that not for decency anyway, it was just that her mother gave her those clothes, and she wasn't seeing any good reason for discussing what she had been given of, no matter the heat, nor the sun. And anyway, that was the thought into her brother's mind, what was there to be seen in Elizabeth after all? He wasn't capable to guess at all how any possible hairdo could have helped her long, boney face to get some sparkle at all...*

Elizabeth is the daughter of a family of farmers in the dry horizons of Far West. Linked to God, Jesus and care, like all her family, she's the silent, generous, extremely humble pivotal presence in the house. All works seem to be her duty, but she sings to skies for she feels happy, and when the thief Francisco gets saved by her and her family, e discovers son himself shocked by her force and inner beauty. Not a beautiful girl, maybe, but the only girl capable to make everything else look so, even in a Land apparently forgot from that God that she calls "Helpful and full of gifts for people."
Elizabeth was for me the most challengin of all ladies to paint... this is the third version Lucia.. now I think I got her essence: the version with free hair is the way Francisco sees her after the storm. Not beautiful, but adorably there for receiving some love.

Not really American Gothic or Dickensian in her angularity and not having that character some call horseface or others see as hatchetface she exudes the inner beauty through tight lips.

The fact is this one: you were meant to make her not beautiful, but after all is just like she is beautiful nevertheless! It's the life you can give to your images I guess.
