...inside the Boeing Future of Flight Building in Everett, Washington.
...this hall advertises advantages of Boeing's airplanes in production at its Paine Field plant...the newest 747s, 777s. And the brand new 787 being assembled from subassemblies manufactured by subcontractors in Japan, South Korea, China, Canada, USA, Australia, England, Sweden, France and Italy.
...the revolutionary tag comes in part from the fact that more than 50% of the 787 is made from fiber reinforced plastics (composites). For example, by manufacturing single-piece molded fuselage sections, the design eliminates the need for 1,500 sheets of aluminum and between 40,000 and 50,000 fasteners (rivets).
...Less weight, more strength equals more room for passengers, extended range, fuel savings and reduced maintenance costs. At least that's what the signs say:-)

Somehow it never translates to lower ticket costs for passengers, though. Frustrating for those of us who want to get somewhere and have limited funds! I haven't been to this exhibit yet, must give it a check. Wonderful shot of the shiny expanse of flooring and marvelous bits of railings...

Sounds like a giant Airfix kit, hope they have more luck with multi-national production than we had in the early days of Airbus! Fascinating place to visit, though I suspect many 'locked doors'....
