Description

Coleonyx variegatus bogerti. I found this little guy in my home in the mountains in southern Arizona, USA. They usually run 4 to 6 inches in length. Being night feeders, they eat insects, especially crickets. These guys make a lot of racket if you annoy or frighten them. They have a high pitched squeal, and they are LOUD. They are also fast when they want to get away. This fellow had apparently been there awhile before I found him; he was totally docile and even let me pose him. After I finished taking his picture, I took him out and let him go. The next image is a close-up of his head and forelegs.

seeing the beauty of Arizona wildlife makes me somewhat melancholic... (I lived in Tucson the entire year 1981, as a postdoc in Univ. of AZ...I really miss the sunny weather (yes, I miss the heat !), I miss the desert, I miss the friendly people,... Thanks for this great picture, Pat ! :~)

Wow this is lovely. We get heaps of Geckos over here in Australia. Most that I see aren't as beautiful as yours in this photo, but I still love seeing them.

OMG - but that begs the question. How do you pose a lizard? Strings? A big stick and a meany face? I don't think I'd like to see a snake with those rings.
