------------- Tales of the Raptor - Streets of Draknan-Gar
Once a ghost town, literally, Draknan-Gar was cleared out by the SGL and the curse on the place removed. The long running battle between the elven Vampire clans, the Voulmorg, and the Orcish Warlich that remained here from the time of the Second Orc wars, had ended. A Shadowen spy was revealed and a corrupt graveyard was sanctified. To keep the graveyard from once again falling into evil, sisters of the Temple of Isis were placed here to maintain the sanctity of the grounds and hold the evil at bay. As they settled in, they began to repair the town and the buildings nearer the graveyard, and they erected a church, with assistance from the local Carellonian Priest, Father Jedediah. Eventually, they turned the grounds over to him and his worshipers when the new Temple of Isis was completed. As people moved back and forth to the old village, some decided to simply stay and take over one of the old buildings there. In no time at all, the village had become a remote community, connected directly to the goings on atop the mountain, but with its own flavor and independence. Traders began to stop at the village of Draknan-Gar instead of taking the long road up the mountain to Syvasgaard. Syvasgaard became a little quieter and Draknan-Gar was reborn. Unfortunately, hundreds of years of haunting by undead left many secrets buried beneath the town, secrets that are only now being unearthed.
Draknan-Gar was so much like a hundred other towns across the northern stretches of Carellon, especially those sitting along the base of the Western Barrier Mountains near Dragomyr. The buildings were white stucco with wooden shakes or red tile roofs, edged and braced in dark ironwood or oaken beams, and rarely less than two stories tall. The main street was cobblestone, but the side roads and those leading in and out town were muddy enough, and enough of that mud had been trailed onto the cobblestone, that it was hard to tell where one ended and the other began.
Over there, down that alleyway, was where the Night Raptors had first come together, fighting some local thugs and their Mord contacts. The Mord had been buying weapons, to be smuggled through the shadow plane by their Shadar'kai agents into Kar'Dhaer, to be delivered to SK Drow agents of Lolth. The end goal was to assassinate a person of prominence, the Dowager Duchess Tawny Drake Steward, and thus weaken the bonds of the Western Alliance. They failed, and the story of the Night Raptors had begun.
The Orc Stew sat right there. That was the bar where Kami and Jay had parted right before that fateful encounter in an alleyway. The Orc Stew was none too impressive. The people were ugly, in more than just physical appearance, and the drinks were overpriced, though definitely not watered down. A few more blocks, and that's about all that was left of Draknan-Gar, and there sat one of the newest buildings in town. Though the whole town had been rebuilt only a few years ago, rebuilt from the ashes and ruins of the ghost town that had once sat here, this place had just been finished over the summer. That was the Ironwood Saloon, Miri's place of employment. The owner and operator, Shari Yvari, formerly of the SGL, had taken one look at her and her guild prostitute registry, and hired her on the spot.
The Night Raptors spent almost more time in Draknan-Gar now than in Kar'Dhaer or their own house. There just always seemed to be something to get into down here.
