Description

Due to this old girl being housed in a very dark and confined hanger, this is the only POV I could shoot. I apologize for not being able to give you a wider look. Selected to replace the Avon Sabre as the RAAF's fighter aircraft in 1960, the Mirage was the first aircraft in RAAF service capable of flying at twice the speed of sound. Entering operational service during 1965, the Mirage served as the front-line fighter until 1988, making the aircraft the longest-serving fighter in RAAF history. Built under licence in Australia by the Government Aircraft Factories (GAF), 100 single-seat and 16 two-seat Mirages were operated by seven RAAF units. For those wondering, this is a Mirage III.

No apologies needed Andrew. This is a great capture and those that follow classic older planes can still appreciate this shot. Dana

Oh! I missed this! Great shot, well found.. As you say shame it was 'hidden' at the back of the hanger.. Needs to be on show.. I can't tell which Mark this is but it looks like a Mk III.. The same as those the Argentinians had during the Falklands War.. Mmmmmmm! They didn't do too well against Harriers! Then again, it could be a MkVI? Not sure.. Great shot, shanks for showing.. Rob
