Hello everyone and thanks for looking...
For this picture I did a little playing around with some settings in the Poser material room. I was trying for a flaming ring effect, so I used the torus primitive from the Poser content, then changed the ambient settings to around 30 or 40, and the transparency settings to around .9 or so. To get the bumpy look to the ring I added a displacement node, and clicked on 3D textures and noise. The high ambient settings makes the object glow like a light source, and if your other lights are low, it gives a pretty cool effect.
Now when you raise the ambient settings it tends to white out the color a bunch, and if any of you smart Poser artists out there know how to get around that, please let us know!

What I usually do in Daz and Cararra (haven't tried it in Poser yet) is use the same channel for ambient glow as I'm using in diffuse. This works great for anything from skydomes to control panels and flames. if you use a color in ambient, it will wash out any texture you have applied, so using the diffuse map in ambient prevents that.

What you want to do is shove an Edge Blend node into the Diffuse slot and the Ambient slot. That'll give you the visual effect you're looking for. Same kind of thing I did for Kenya China. She glows in the dark too:D
