Description

Here you see the Ranger who took us to get a closer look at this magnificent sculpture in progress. It is the worlds largest mountain carving and when finished, in many decades time, will show Crazy Horse on his horse. This is in the Black Hills of South Dakota and lots more info can be found in your browser. It will be 641 feet long and 563 feet high. (approx 300mm to the foot).

It looks like excellent work, but they will probably be starting to build the admission gate and fences soon. Perhaps they already have if it was necessary to have a ranger take you there. Nice shot, and pleasant-looking fellow!

I had always hoped I'd live to see this great monument completed but I don't think I will make it. This is the first photo I've seen that puts it in such good perspective and gives me a good idea of what it will look like to people who come to see it. Marvelous shot.

Fascinating picture Jeff...along with MrsLubner, you and I won't be here when this gets finished. I hope the decendants of the original artist (now deceased) have a plan for who takes over the work when they are gone too. Something akin to the big old churches in Europe that took more than 100 years to complete.

I have seen other photos of this monumental rock-carving and it always seems spectacular, similar to Mount Rushmore - methinks ... another angle (POV) - another impression and so interesting, maybe one day I will see it for myself, thanks Jeff, BB
