John Philip Sousa has struck up the band for you Harry!!! 1800...I won't be there for a long time:) Beautiful orchids that look all the lovelier at the ZOOM. I too love using a tripod when I am somewhere away from people. Superbly sharp and clear.

Gosh Harry, these are beautiful. I have never owned an Orchid .. I think I have always been afraid of them. A friend of mine expressed just how much work they are; and difficult to keep them thriving. Maybe one day I'll bite the bullet and give it a whirl. Ya never know! Hope you are doing well.

Harry, there's no way I could come close to covering all the quality work you've posted after a several-months' absence (mine) from RR; so I can only try to hit a few each time I'm here---a few, at that, mostly because I leave such verbose comments in your uploads; something I do at this length in only a small number of galleries I visit. But I chose to end with this piece, now, because it was your 1800th (which I was aware of when it went up). You seem to switch gears with each genre you do, adjusting your eye to the subject; and flowers is one of those genres, where you get into "flower" mode instantaneously. Yet, even in that genre, you get many personalities accdg to the flowers, locations, times of day, etc. And though you often post montages---where we see the variations light & furrow, etc, one after the next---you also do beautiful single shots, having the variety of your montages, only in a single image. This is an example of that...It seems to be only 2 types of orchid, but because the lighter ones divide the group in odd places (and weave in & out in spots), it feels like several types of orchid rather than two. The overall feel, here, is opulence, with lots of rich forms spilling over each other. And, of course, contrast, because the violet flowers stand out considerably from the whiter ones. But then there's quite a bit of variation within each petal, not to mention the speckles (which are trademarks of orchids to begin with). All in all, it's a big leafy profusion; and, against the green background, it stands out very nicely. It has to be hard to know what to post for milestones, given the many themes & varieties you post in each upload...but since flowers are one of your returning themes, it's fitting that you use them as milestones. A beautiful image; and, of course, your gallery is a gift. I still don't know why you haven't been chosen for gallery of the month; but this gallery, with over 1800 images, remains one of the most inventive, dogged---in the sense of ever-vigilant and never-flagging---and opulent galleries on the site. A grand congratulations & I wish you 18,000 more---I just inched past 300 for god's sake!---and I hope I can get here more often than in the past few seasons. (If I left shorter comments, I could comment on more, but at least I try to speak for your eye as a whole, as best I can.) A grand pleasure, Harry, and many, many more. This place is a cornucopia.
