Description

...Rob (debbielove) has been requesting shots of a certain aircraft I photographed Saturday, August 6th... ...here you go my friend. The Focke-Wulf FW 190 A-5 with a bonus, its stable-mate,...the Messerschmidt Bf 109 E-3 from Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection. ...the back stories of these two aircraft are fascinating in their own right. The Focke-Wulf was recovered from a Russian swamp in the late 1980s (pulled out part by part by a Soviet helicopter) and the Messerschmidt fought in the Battle of Britain and was discovered under sand at low tide on a British beach some years ago. ...through miraculous restoration work, Saturday, August 6, 2011 they flew together for the first time. And even more impressive for us aviation history buffs, this was the first time any authentic FW 190 and Bf 109 has flown together since April or May 1945...more than 66 years ago. Bill P.S. I'm so ignorant about these things. To me they look like just a bunch of small propeller planes...I'm glad that someone knows and cares! Excellent captures and collage, Bill!

Bill, a super collage of these two rare birds. Rob will be in 7th heaven. The only thing missing for me is the sound. A very fine presentation!

Fantastic! And If I recall my facts rightly, this is also the only restored FW-190 with a BMW 801 engine.

There is a wonderful history for both of these individual planes. I remember you showing us the story of the Russian swamp but the beach recovery is new to me. Super collage and especially the middle photo. Sweet photography. Dana
