Description

Found this baby Hummingbird on my front porch early afternoon on July 9th. It appeared to be injured and couldn't fly more than a few feet. And defiantly couldn't land (it would hit the ground and tumble.) I picked it up and looked at it. Appeared one of it's wings was pretty damaged. The mother kept hovering around it, but seemed like she couldn't do anything for it. I called Animal control and placed it in a small box in the shade while I waited for them. The mother came by to feed it a couple times in that 45 mins. Animal Control told me it will likely die no matter what anyone did. They are just too fragile and need to be flying and feeding all the time. He took it with him. When I woke up the next morning I looked out the window. As soon as I did, there was mother hovering 6-7 inches from my face through the window screen for a good 15-20 secs. Made me sad. I know she was wondering where her baby went. Poor little thing never got a chance to really live... Taken with the 50mm 2.5 while it sat in the box. If I could do it again, I would have used a smaller f/stop to get more in focus. But my mind at the time wasn't really focused on all that (no pun intended). Thanks for looking and comments!!! PS, anyone know the species? Anna's Maybe? Full View for a nice detailed shot.

Life is harsh my friend. Makes me sad when hearing this news that you shared. After all The Lord made us all to live. You did what you could do my friend. Sad though that the little fellow wont make it and that the mother still came to look for him to feed him. I do not know the specie. Trust there will be someone that can give you information of which specie of humming bird this is. God Bless.

The way that they burn up calories, they do have to feed almost constantly. An unfortunate fact for this little one,but you did all that you could.A wonderful shot of this injured little creature.

A wonderful capture of this beautiful little humming bird and how sad that it didn't make it. It was amazing that the mother came back and that would have made you feel awful not to be able to give her baby back.
