Description

Near Vicenza we visited La Rotonda, the most famous of all Palladio's villas. The idea of putting a dome on a cube sounds so simple. Why had no one done it before? It was built between 1550 an 1552 and inspired lookalikes as far away as St Petersburg, London and Delhi. It is very beautiful. So harmonious. If you are near do visit. There were no photographs allowed inside so the splendour of the interior must remain in the memory. As they say in the Michelin guides 'worth a detour'!
