Description
Reelfoot Lake, located in Northwest Tennessee at the Kentucky border, was formed from the massive New Madrid earthquake of 1812. The earthquake was extremely severe, causing church bells to ring as far away as Boston, with aftershocks felt all the way to Quebec!
Reelfoot is a large, shallow lake originally filled with water from the Mississippi River displaced by the 1812 earthquake.
Cypress trees abound, and do to the shallow depth of the lake they often grow far from the shoreline, as displayed in this photograph.
The lake is also known for some excellent fishing, and on my next trip we plan on resuming that lost hobby of ours!
Thanks for stopping by,
marshall
