In system L-374, the wrecked USS Constellation locked in the tractor beam of a monster planet killer that destroyed all but 4 planets in the system fires the last of its photon torpedoes blindly into the maw of the killer. This somehow stunned the monster by releasing the tractor beam and not pursuing the crippled ship that used the last of its impulse power to escape. But the damage to the once mighty starship, Commodore Mathew Decker was forced to beam down his whole crew to the third planet hoping for rescue and to warn the Federation of the killer. ********************************* Had wondered how the Constellation escaped when the Doomsday Machine was about the tractor the Enterprise into its mouth. Especially knowing how relentless the robot was. Doomsday machine was a simple mock-up.
