Description

Docklands is the semi-official name for an area in east London, England. It forms part of the boroughs of Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Newham and Greenwich. The docks were formerly part of the Port of London, at one time the world's largest port. They have now been redeveloped principally for commercial and residential use. The Docklands' redevelopment has, however, had some less beneficial aspects. The massive property boom and consequent rise in house prices has led to friction between the new arrivals and the old Docklands communities, who have complained of being squeezed out. It has also made for some of the most striking disparities to be seen anywhere in Britain: luxury executive flats constructed alongside run-down public housing estates. As the river Thames is tidle, the water is always a dirty brown color although its supposed to be one of the cleanest in Europe. Full Zoomage Recomended. Have a nice day.

Nothing stands still. I was born in South-East London, left in the sixties, and it's changed out of all recognition since. Lot of population change too. Much of the community life was destroyed when they built the high-rise flats; people lost touch with each other. Great photo, though I don't care for the colour of the buildings!

Brilliant. The yellow tones give it a distinctly "unsunny" feel. You really worked the mood on this one. Well done.

With all the money they spent on these developments you would think they could include a little more greenery. Gentrification is happening everywhere. The local culture and color is replaced with a sterile sameness. Hence the monocolor buildings. The good news is that the tax base is increased. Your image shows this very well.
