Description

The Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica) is the most widespread species of swallow in the world. It is a distinctive passerine bird with blue upperparts, a long, deeply forked tail and curved, pointed wings. It is found in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. In Anglophone Europe it is just called the Swallow; in Northern Europe it is the only common species called a "swallow" rather than a "martin". I guess we have different races of the same bird. Our Barn Swallow (also Hirundo rustica) has a much darker rust-colored breast and a noticably smaller beak. Upon closer inspection, your bird is quite unlike any of our swallows. I didn't mean to suggest you had misidentified your last upload! On a related topic, have you had any success photographing swallows in flight? I have found them to be almost impossible to follow in the air, so I've not had much luck at it.
