Description

A little bit of personal history, this time. I bought my first car in the Autumn of 1960. In May, I had been discharged from the U.S. Air Force. I had entered that service four days after graduation from secondary school. During those four years, I did not need the use of an automobile, mostly because I was serving overseas in Korea and Japan. That summer, I lived with my folks on their farm and had the use of a vehicle when I needed it; which again wasn't all that often. However, I had started college at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas. I needed to work in order to survive and this required transportation. Salina had no city bus system at the time; so it was buy a car or perish for me. As a teenager, I'd always been fascinated by the small European cars. I found a used Ford Angelica sitting in the back lot of the local Ford dealership. I have no mechanical skills or knowledge but I figured it was small and would probably go farther on a tank of gas than the big American cars of the '50s and '60s. This car featured in this render is newer than the car I bought. Mine looked very much like it, but was all grey and rather worn looking. The Angelica of that day was not really meant for the wide open spaces and high speed limits of America. Whoever owned it before me, probably didn't know how to drive it properly and so it was in worse shape than it looked. I'm not saying this is true of all Angelicas of that time, but mine was a piece of sh--er, junk! After two weeks, I ended trading it for a 1953 Chevy sedan. That one lasted me a couple of more years before the oil pump froze and ruined my engine. But that's another story. _____________________ Thanks for stopping by! A really nice scene, spoiled only slightly by the front tire poking through the ground - or is it a flat? :D

I remember them as a kid, but here in the UK they were called the 'Ford Anglia'. Always something special about your first car, mine was a Ford too!
