Description

There's a bit of a humorous story in Norse mythology about Loki turning himself into a mare in order to distract the horse of a frost giant. The giant says he will build the wall to protect Asgard, and when he finishes, he wants the lovely Freya, the Sun AND the Moon. The gods need a wall but this is not a good deal. The giant goes unnamed but his horse is called Svaðilfari. Svaðilfari is an amazing horse and does most of the work. When it begins to look like the giant might finish in the stipulated time, the gods tell Loki he'd better do something about it...because he's the one got them to agree to these terms. If he doesn't, his neck is on the line. So, Loki turns himself into a pretty little mare and leads Svaðilfari off on a merry chase, causing the giant to miss his deadline. It would seem that Svaðilfari did catch up to Loki the mare, because Loki later gives birth to Odin's eight-legged horse, Sleipnir. Ouch!! ;) Thanks for stopping by dear friends and I hope your weekend is going well. If you're on the East Coast, I wish you well and keep your heads down! Take care! Rayvn

Wonderful image and fitting depiction of the mythical work horse. Ah Loki, where would the gods be without him.
