Description

First of all I want to say I'm really very glad so many seem to enjoy my images! I'm very honored by that. But I want to say that I'm not all that amazing.. I'm just a regular hobbyist that have been playing with poser for a while now. The other day I had a debate with some people about the word talent. I don't belive in that word. I don't belive that some people "get something for free" because they're "talented" In art some people might have it a little bit easier if they have an eye for what looks good and what doesn't.. but as far as the technical stuff, I belive in practise. Telling an artist, athlete or whatever that "Oh, you're so talented" belittles the amount of effort they put into something in my opinion. Nobody gets anything for free. Everybody has to work for it, and it's the amount of effort, practise and hard work that makes you get better, I truly belive that. Sure, in some cases certain things require you to have necessary condition, for instance a marathon runner will probably do better if they're not overweight or have too much muscle mass, where if you play basketball it might be easier if you're quite tall etc. But to be good at what you do you still have to pracise and work at it. I belive that anybody can do almost anything if they put their mind to it. I've attached my very first poser image I ever made above.. There is nothing special about it.. the lighting isn't brilliant, the colours don't pop and it feels quite bland.. but that's where I started, that's where I'm coming from and I'm constrantly trying to improve and learn new things. Don't ever be afraid of trying new things and explore, that's how you learn and evolve! :) I hope I get what I want to say across well enough.. I'm not very good with words.. this is not meant to offend anyone, but rather it's meant as inspiration.

Digital art is not a talent anyone can do it its what you do with it and what comes from your heart and imagination that is what i think and a lot is how you blend it into a scene and the lighting and the time you want to spend on making that scene work congrats on AOM.

you are an inspiration to many Jenni and the simple fact that you share so much makes you one of the very special members of this community.... I am sure there are many out there that produce amazing imagery but very rarely share their method or technique as generously as you do..... thanks for putting your thoughts fwd like this for us to ponder carl

Your words really reached my heart and you are absolutely right. It requires practice and patience to achieve what you do want. That is why I enjoy every single piece I do, no matter how complex or simple it is. Your are an inspiration to me and many others in this community. Thank you so much to share your fabulous works of art.

I'm mostly agree that practice hard work make up the talent of most people have. I believe 90% of women could become a high fashion model in New York or an actress in Hollywood. On the other hand there are some people because of genetics will never succeed. Take a marathon runner. I had a over weight co-worker who got in shape and ran the Boston Marathon. I think most people with years of hard work could end up in the 100 marathon. But to reach the podium, an extra genetic gift is probably necessary. Likewise most giant hulking NFL front line men would have trouble running the Boston marathon. Overall I agree that willingness to learn, practice and hard work will allow you to succeed at most tasks. -Kurt

Your words came across just fine. I do believe that people can have a talent, but it is worth nothing, if you do not hone it and use it. I can't play basketball. No matter how much I practice at it, I'd still suck. I don't have a talent for it. I think a talent will point you in the right direction of what you are happy doing and will be good at, but only if you give it the time and attention it needs to become something great. Your first image is so much better than my first image. :) Go look at my little piece of crap and we'll talk. :) Good luck on the AOM!

Great point, I think there is research about becoming an expert in something it requires something like 10,000 hours, so yes practise is the game.

Excellent work, and comments- as are the observations and comments from your watchers above. I don't think that anyone should under-estimate the hard work and practice that goes into the wonderful images you create. And as well, you clearly have a certain way of pulling all that hard work together in such a way that makes your images speak to our imaginations in an unique and compelling way. And, your final comment is most inspiring! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your art!!

Jonnar01 has a point that I'd like to expand upon. I think with some artists they do have an innate vision - a heightened visual perception and imagination that sometimes (at least in my case) shows me an image full force, then I feel compelled to make it. Some call that The Muse. I also call it talent, but maybe that is a misnomer. The skills - those are the ones that can be developed, learned, tweaked, better software, pencils, paints, canvas - whatever the medium, study of light and shadow, attention to details like posing, angle of the camera. I think you have both. Even in your first image you have a sense of posing that most beginners lack. Really a great post, and you are a true inspiration to me!

great words....from the heart Jen...well said. As for the " talent " issue...it is how you interpret the word really...i will say you have a wonderful talent for making excellent images...sue me !!!!!...lol. And yes the effort really does show in your works....i think that is what i like the most about what you post here, that and the gorgeous girls !!!...sue me !!! Sorry, don't mean to embaress you....just keep doing what you do and i for one will keep posting comments on them.....and try to avoid the use of the word " talent " from now on .....mind you it is difficult to find different words for talent, excellent and great art :-)

I so much appreciate your words. There is inspiration in what you say. You are definitely one of my favourite artists, and I always read what you include so as to learn. I don't really agree with you about talent but it is a good starting place for considering this topic. The bottom line is this: I love your images, and they move me and teach me. What more could I ask for. Very sincerely, Randy

Art as such comes from the heart - no talent, no school can teach. She lives or not. The important thing is that you are feeling with the object, which has created it. A pencil line can convey more feeling than a day's work in oil paint. I think you know what art is, because I see your pictures ... My congrats too!

Thank you for your words. I agree, it always comes from practice. The more you do the better you slowly become. Always try new things and I guess the hardest part is always remembering that everybody probably struggled through the same feelings you might be having - that's the big one for me. Thanks again for the great inspiration!

You certainly hit a chord with many, myself included. We all have strengths and weaknesses, but we will always improve in both areas with practice and patience. While I may never do art like you do it, I have my own "voice" if you will, we all do. The trick is to find it. It's really great to see where you started and how far you've come, it's very inspiring!

I mostly agree but I have met several "savants" who could pick up things as easily as if they had studied for years. One had a "talent" for musical instruments though he couldn't read music. He could play any music he heard though. For the rest of us, it is indeed a lot of hard work. Your images show very nice nuances.

I agree entirely! I have learned a lot from RR ever since I have been here. That is why I always try to comment as much as possible, because it is an added incentive. One way or the other, though, your work IS brilliant, and that should be said.

Beautifully chosen words - and much to agree upon. It does take work to develop skills, along with an open mind and a willingness to learn and continue learning. You've done awesome & inspirational work, and beyond that you also pass on your knowledge to others. I look forward to seeing more in the future. And congrats on the AOM!

I see what you mean about "oh, you are so talented!". I suspect that for most people who say it (including me), the true meaning of it is not that of diminishing the receiver's ability, skill, hard work, or whatever, but is more a lack of more specific words to convey admiration. Just my opinion, though... :) It depends on what one means by "talent", too, if its nature is considered a given or acquired (through hard work, yada yada), right? But does one really preclude the other? Talent could be a predisposition, a seed of ability, say, to start with, which through hard work grows into a full tree... or forest! :0 Or not. You decide. ;) No matter, what you do and how you do it is amazing, IMO. :)
