Description

Discarding Stages: A New Perspective In the course of design work sometimes one finds that a certain amount of re-thinking is in order … My initial thoughts for the Callisto Mission Vehicle revolved around a singular all mission-phase spacecraft acting as in-flight habitat/surface habitat, crew lander, production rig, and payload return vehicle. As I came to understand the scale of production required in the course of a serious effort to terraform Mars, I realized that this would never do – and running some preliminary numbers through the mission requirements calculators available on Winchell Chung’s Atomic Rocket website confirmed a growing sense that some serious re-tooling of the concept was in order. At that point (several weeks in the past now) I understood the need for secondary mission support craft – and this is when the Cargo Lander & Reusable Payload Launch vehicle and the Drill Rig Lander were designed. The re-design permitted me to off-load much of the production equipment and some of the consumables onto two additional spacecraft. The remaining work involved re-imaging the Crew Mission Vehicle into its present configuration. I have re-rendered all previous images to include the new model; these images are available at the following links: Prospecting Callisto Discarding Stages Callisto Production Field Lander, Orion Power-Pack, and Discarding Stages are my own Bryce creations. As always thank you for your interest, thoughtful comments, and encouragement.

William, you are one of my all time favorite artist here at Renderosity and for that matter any where on the web. Your work has always been inspiring to me and just makes me want to keep pushing that envelope more and more in Bryce. I am currently working on a couple of projects for clients and it seems that I hardly ever get a chance to post anything here or anywhere sadly. I hope to have some new work posted very soon that will cover quite a wide range of topics but as we all well know the topics will always deal with space and human space exploration. Well maybe a probe here or there sometimes to break things up. So again, awesome work my friend and I look forward to your next project which I know is just around the corner. All the best, David
