Description

Starting from the far right, you can see the Clock Tower best known as Big Ben. The middle is the Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament and is the meeting place of the two houses of the Parliament, of the United Kingdom, the House of Lords and the House of Commons. It lies on the north bank of the River Thames, in the heart of the London borough of the City of Westminster, close to the historic Westminster Abbey and the government buildings of Whitehall and Downing Street. Victoria Tower is the square tower, on the left, at the south-west end of the Palace of Westminster, facing south and west onto Black Rod's Garden. At 323 feet (98.5 meters), it is slightly taller than the more famous Clock Tower. It houses the Parliamentary Archives, on 12 of the 14 floors. A sharp eye might notice the towers, above the trees, on the left side. That would be the western facade of Westminster Abby. Rain and more fog today. Info from Wikipedia. 1995 photo taken from Lambeth Place Road and scanned. Zoom will show off the grainy photo. Thanks for stopping by my gallery, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

OMG, I hadn't noticed it before, but the background is dominated by a series of sharp spires, prominently contasted against the grey sky, Dana. Stellar drab British ambience displayed in this photo.

This brings back memories of Fish and chips, on the way home from a London show we would stop on the embankment to eat them before finishing our trip home.

We are very lucky to have you - showing us the other side of an architectural feat, which we may never see - us tourists in computer chairs! ;-) Who knows ? maybe one fine day ? but you can keep those miserable looking skies, we are spoiled by and I am used to the sun ... you may well ask: 'what is that?' ;-( none-the-less, thanks for sharing this Dana, BB
