Description

Meleagris gallopavo. Found by Madera Kubo, Santa Catalina Mountains, southern Arizona, USA. These fellows are often found anywhere along a one mile stretch in Madera Canyon. He had a small harem and a couple of youngsters. They really strut their stuff! They like to come out when it's cool: close to sunrise or sunset. They were hunted almost to extinction because they are good food birds, but are making a comeback. Imagine yourself just going along, looking for birds in the trees, or driving, and suddenly there is this really big guy not six feet away from you.
