Description
It was a dream, an ideal founded on a notion that food, pirates & ships would make a good mix, an entertaining evening, a table set to eat, the gently rocking of the ship in calm waters, waiters dressed as pirates to serve, a somewhat idyllic way to spend and evening, even a romantic eve it would seem.
But fate the fickle wench that she is, took a hand in the dream, the ideal & the notion and created her own ideal, one that had negative effects on the dream. Her ideal was made noticed by vandalism, fire & what ever else was in her lil bag of tricks, made notice and served so that the dream was no more, but now just a very faded dream
She sits now in a sheltered lagoon just off the QEW between Toronto & Niagara Falls, sits derelict, canted on an angle, her decks covered in weeds, her upper works rusted, the wood on her hull now cracked and dried out, weather beaten if you will severely by the elements. She rest there & has for the last 10 or more years now, her masts & crows nest visible from the highway, an image when seen that does not fit one thinking and for some may require further investigation, perhaps or not. But she sits a somewhat potent reminder of dreams that we all have and hold near & dear to all of us. And why the " Burnt Pearl" you ask?? Burnt she was no question, the pearl as it was just that a pearl of an idea that someone had dreamed & lost.....................thanks for the peek

She's awesome. A coat of paint and she'd be good to go. ;) I've always loved how nature slowly reclaims our toys. Apparently she began life at the start of WW1 as a St. Lawrence River ferry named Le Progress.

It is sad to see how a ship gets old, abandoned and forgotten. "... Often made him think that men and ships should sank down on time, in the open sea, instead of rotting tied to the earth" (Arturo Perez-Reverte "La carta esférica") Great image.
