Description

Did something a bit different today. No, not an airshow though that was part of the program. We took a cruise on the Chesapeake on the SS JOHN W. BROWN from Project Liberty Ship. Full boat, literally. 700 passengers aboard today. Visitors included FDR, Dugout Doug, Abbot and Costello and a number of military re-enactors including a misplaced Soviet soldier and a tall fellow in Wermacht outfit. I guess he got on the wrong ship. Anyhow, one of the highlights of these cruises is an attack by "enemy" aircraft who are engaged by the Naval Guard and defensive fighters. The Guard did their job and we got a number of very low buzzes from this B-25. Zoom in; you can see the pilot. PW just chopped the sky to fit R's file size. Once I figure out You.Tube, I will post some videos. Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

Great to see one airborn, having just photographed a restored one that will never fly again! I see they have 'Daisy Mae' on the port side too!

This guy did a strafing-type run from bow to stern at just over mast-top height. The roar of the engines was ... very roary. The master of the ship was almost beside himself laughing as he asked: Did anybody NOT get a good look inside that bomb-bay? Unfortunately, the pass was unexpected and too fast for me to get aimed skyward. I just remember the sound and the black blur zipping over. He also did a few broadside attack runs. You can imagine the site of one of these coming at you full bore with all .50 cals spitting slugs.

Great shot. You answered my question. They have a Liberty ship in San Pedro, CA and they do trips to Catalina Island in summer with simulated attacks. I haven't gone on one yet.
