Description

I've narrowed this picture down to the end of July or beginning of August, 1971. The trapezoid building was the tallest in the city at the time and I think it was known as the John Hancock building. Dedicated to Chipka for his many nice shots of Chicago.

It's still called the Hancock. (The John Hancock Center, to be more precise.) It was finished in 1968, and was the tallest building in the world outside of New York City. Super image!

WOW! What a shot and thank you for the dedication; both are marvelous. That "trapezoid" building is the John Hancock Center (locally just called the John Hancock) and for a time it was the tallest building in Chicago/the world, and was eventually superseded by the Sears Tower (now called the Willis Tower) and Chicagoans like to consider it the tallest building in the world, even though that title has been usurped another building, elsewhere...NOW, the John Hancock Center has a spot in a very crowded skyline! Chicago's downtown core is densely packed with so many skyscrapers it's amazing that sunlight even reaches the ground. This is an amazing shot! Vintage Chicago. Thank you for the dedication and I have to say that I love sights of Chicago before it started to look like Chicago!
