When I was a young nipper, two things spurred my interest in art. The first was my wonderful set of Grolier World Book of Knowledge encyclopedias for kids, circa 1954. They introduced me to fairy tales and the work of the great illustrators like Maxfield Parrish and Howard Pyle. After searching for like 5 years to find them, I finally got a duplicate set last year, and they're still as wonderful now as they were then. Those encyclopedias really influenced me a lot. The second thing was that, at the time, they were selling these lenticular 3D images of fairy tale and fantasy subjects. They appeared to have had sets modeled from clay. They were, for me, wonderful pictures. I've never been able to fund anything like them, so their wonder is probably more in my head than in reality. But they got me into 3D. I've been trying to emulate those two influences ever since. This is as close as I've come. And I suspect I may be approaching something that could be considered genuine 'art'.
