In the vast underdark there are many drow cities that utilize slaves in their military offensives, against each other and other races. Goblins are among the most popular of the races used to fill this expendable quota. With proper supervision and given a simple objective, they can prove quite effective in numbers. The base unit is the 9 member goblin squad, comprised of 8x goblin warriors, lead by a single goblin cleric. Goblins constitute the bulk of the enlisted ranks and hobgoblins makeup the officer corp. Drow always remain in command. Even a 10th level hobgoblin dare not cross a lowly drow male fighter, if he wishes to live for long. If an ambitious hobgoblin does manage to kill a drow, he can likely expect his whole unit will be slaughtered in response. The reason for this scene is to lay the groundwork for the first epic battle I have planned, that will involve several thousand goblins and about one hundred drow. The much larger than usual raid, will target a dwarven kingdom near the surface. The drow objective in all of this will be to kill the dwarven king. The assassination of their leader, will of course instill a retalitory response from the dwarves, into the waiting drow ambush involving 1000 drow and over 10,000 goblins. Oh and yes, Shandara, Mara, Thorin, Silvara and others will be involved. To be continued...
