Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Nice family group shot mate.

Chip looks like he is waiting to arrest you as you make a last goodbye! It's probably just the worry of it. It didn't take you long to get that camera going after the op, did it? I famously whipped my TZ out of my jeans pocket on the operating table before my last bronchoscopy to make a group portrait of the theatre team. It was a bit out of focus as the calm-you-down meds had taken effect. How lovely to see your parents, and a year?!! where did that go? I wish you increasing wellbeing, Corey. Good friends and a healthy obsession will keep you motivated!

Excellent shot, Corey, nice to know you had a great support group like this when you needed them.

I remember this day; I'd just walked in from the kitchen so I probably had a mouth full of something, which explains my serious expression--I had a mouth full of something that would have looked undignified had I attempted to smile with food-stuffed cheeks. **Note to self: don't chew stuff while a camera is aimed in your direction; it makes you look...um...somewhat official in that law-enforcement sort of way. This is a great shot. I can't remember where I put that shirt either; it does make me look like either a paramedic or a law enforcement official. Funny how that works. And yeah, it was a year ago? Where did that time go? This is a great shot! And that reminds me, I still have to send a copy of Cryptonomicon to your dad. He liked the bits about various disease organisms, criminals, and soldiers, and cute, little predatory animals being "prodigious badasses". What a loopy book that was! Anyway, this is a great shot. And I'm glad it's been a year ago and you're doing better.

Isn't it great to have people in your life who love you and care how you're doing? Count me as one of them ... I can't wait to see you next week and see how well you're doing! :)

A lovely candid family capture and it is lovely to meet your parents. I'm glad you are doing OK after your surgery, I'm sorry I missed that you were having an op. I know I was pretty glad to be alive after my heart surgery so I know a bit about how you are feeling. Mine was about 6 years ago. I do appreciate life more these days.

Just getting here...:) You are probably about an hour away from meeting us at our hotel room...so thought I better sneak a peak at what you've been doing lately. Great shot of family...they are a most valuable asset. First anniversary of your surgery...way to go. I passed my second anniversary of the same thing last month. If this was 50-75 years ago, you and I wouldn't be quite so chipper, would we? See you soon!
