...a colored light column of the sculpture park/garden around our Josef Albers Art Museum called 'Quadrat' (into the City Garden)this sculpture is a dedication at Josef Albers! ---------------------------- Josef Albers is on 19 Born March 1888 in Bottrop (North Rhine Westphalia ,Germany). 1905 - 1908 training as a primary school teacher 1913 - 1915 studies at the Royal Art School, Berlin 1916 - 1919 visit the School of Applied Arts in Essen 1919 - 1920 studies at the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Franz von Stuck and Max Doerner 1920 Josef Albers's Bauhaus in Weimar. 1925 With the move of the Bauhaus Dessau Bauhaus masters and in 1930 he is deputy director. In 1932 he obtained a first solo exhibition. 1933 all teachers be laid off at the Bauhaus and the Bauhaus was closed. Josef and Anni Albers received by Philip Johnson has moved to the newly founded Black Mountain College in North Carolina, USA, and leave Germany. 1935 made their first trip to Cuba and Mexico. Both are by the architecture and culture of Mexico as strongly impressed that made many more trips to the late 60s, and affect both the life and work of the artist couple lasting. Anni and Josef Albers in 1939 are American citizens. In 1949 she quit her job at Black Mountain College. There follow numerous visiting professorships, lecture tours and activities of both. Josef Albers received numerous awards, prizes and Ehrendoktorwüden. Anni Albers became the first female Textil Artist a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York Artist, awards and honors. His 1950 best-known work group - Homage to the Square has produced. 1953/54 Albers returns back as a guest lecturer at the College of Design in Ulm, Germany. 1963, the book Interaction of Color. 1970 Josef Albers is an honorary citizen of Bottrop. 1976 Josef Albers died on 25 March in Orange, Connecticut and his wife Anni on 9 May 1994. ---------------------------- Josef Albers wird am 19. März 1888 in Bottrop geboren. 1905 - 1908 Ausbildung zum Volksschullehrer 1913 - 1915 Studium an der Königlichen Kunstschule, Berlin 1916 - 1919 Besuch der Kunstgewerbeschule in Essen 1919 - 1920 Studium an der Bayerischen Akademie der bildenden Kunst in München bei Franz von Stuck und Max Doerner 1920 geht Josef Albers ans Bauhaus nach Weimar. 1925 Mit dem Umzug des Bauhauses nach Dessau wird er Bauhausmeister und 1930 stellvertretender Direktor. 1932 erhält er eine erste Einzelausstellung. 1933 werden alle Lehrkräfte des Bauhauses entlassen und das Bauhaus wird geschlossen. Josef und Anni Albers erhalten durch Philip Johnson einen Ruf an das neu gegründete Black Mountain College in North Carolina, USA, und verlassen Deutschland. 1935 erfolgt ihre erste Reise nach Kuba und Mexiko. Beide sind durch die Architektur und Kultur Mexikos so stark beeindruckt, dass zahlreiche weitere Reisen bis in die späten 60er Jahre erfolgen, und sowohl das Leben als auch das Werk des Künstlerpaares nachhaltig beeinflussen. 1939 Anni und Josef Albers werden amerikanische Staatsbürger. 1949 beenden sie ihre Arbeit am Black Mountain College. Es folgen zahlreiche Gastdozenturen, Reisen und Vortragstätigkeiten beider. Josef Albers erhält zahlreiche Ehrungen, Preise und Ehrendoktorwüden. Anni Albers erhält als erste Textilkünstlerin eine Einzelausstellung im Museum of Modern Art in New York, Preise und Ehrungen. 1950 Seine bekannteste Werkgruppe - Homage to the Square entsteht. 1953/54 kehrt Albers als Gastdozent der Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm nach Deutschland zurück. 1963 erscheint das Buch Interaction of Color. 1970 Josef Albers wird Ehrenbürger von Bottrop. 1976 Josef Albers stirbt am 25. Wow that was informative, I didn;t know any of this till now :) Your english is perfect and it's not even your first language! I know a lot of people who only know english and theirs is shocking. To the photograph, the perspective is wonderful I love the way you have used the tree branches, they give the effect of a curtain which in turn emphasises the subject. Wonderful capture.

I have a feature wall in my open-plan house, which has the same influence, as this sculpture design - (similar to the Artist Piet Mondrian) but painted by myself. I might post it here one day here at Renderosity, as I am a big fan of this style, thanks Susanne for sharing this. BB
