Oooh! I have missed your beautiful work. I must catch up! THIS is astonishing! It is so moody. I cannot describe my feeling, but it is a good one. It is similar to the feeling I get when I read a good book from another country. I understand it and I enjoy it, but there is something that I must wait to understand later, so it's almost like reading the book again. I have that feeling with this image. I instantly loved it, and there is so much to see and enjoy and explore...but I have to wait to allow this picture to say something else. Later. I like that feeling. Art is so wonderful when it does that. This is super! It's a favorite!

I can't believe I never commented on this, it's an amazing collection of pieces. These mixed portraits you do remind me of Leonardo da Vinci. Partly because he did faces and hands and objects, all placed around the paper. Partly because he used sepia washes and earthen tones (you're using more of an amber tone here). And partly because, being from the Renaissance, he was one of a number of artists who were discovering the great power of human expression, after the tighter and less 'human' art of the Middle Ages. You explore that here. But the comparison ends there. This is also an Ana piece, because of the emotional and psychological depth of your portraits, and the heart you put into each one. They're human landscapes, landscapes of the soul...and they move in and out of each other like spirits or ghosts. Like dreams. Your line, as always, is very facile and alive, it undulates across the faces and mouths and eyes, etc. And the faces seem to blend into each other, as we move across this piece. Much deep expression here, and still it's a 'dream'...heavy and light, introspective and 'fleeting'...like a dance of faces across the horizon. Beautiful introspective work. (I'm dying to know how you use alcohol with pencil. It looks like watercolors.) Haunting and beautiful...
