Description
this is the closest I have been to an elk.there are two young bulls that were trying to get dominance over the other, but neither chose to challenge this old bull
all of them(20-30) was looking at the care takers bringing their food.when they entered the enclosure with their ATV the driver had a small whip to pop to discourage the ones not wanting to wait

Excellent shot Richard, They are impressive animals!!! You Should have gone by Estes Park, Colorado... They roam the streets there. Also could have taken in the Stanley Hotel (Famous from Steven King's 'The Shining)

Beautiful shot Richard. We have a couple of large elk farms not far from here. There are also lots of wild elk around as well. Unfortunately the wild elk population is threatened by tuberculosis. It has reached the point where any elk shot by hunters has to be tested for TB. The numbers testing positive are growing. TB can be treated sucessfully, but it is almost impossible in the wild population. They dont tend to comply with showing up for follow-up vet visits.

Cool shot. They must be like horses. When I go in the pasture, if I carry a carrot for my horse, the other ones almost attack me. They can smell it.
