Description

I took a lot of pictures out the window as we were driving across the country. Some of them weren't as sharp as they could be ... moving along at 75mph isn't an experience that lends itself to fabulous photography! Thank heaven for filters. Long stretches of I-29 through Iowa and Missouri are still closed due to damage caused by June floods. The Missouri River is still not back to "normal," and there were places where we saw fields that were still flooded. Detouring around those flooded and damaged places allowed us to see parts of Iowa we wouldn't have otherwise seen. This was somewhere in the Loess Hills.

We were in Yellowstone when 9-11 happened and we ended up driving back home rather than risking getting stranded somewhere if we took a plane...I loved what we saw of Iowa from Route 80...always wanted to go back...

Interesting to see this view of Iowa farmland as some of my grandmother's cousins emigrated here at the end of the 19thc.

Iowa is really lovely farming country, not as flat as Kansas, and it seemed to me the times I've been through it that it's greener, too. I could be wrong there. A lovely shot, especially given that it's from a speeding vehicle!

What a gorgeous and rustic shot...and it's in Iowa. I told myself I was going to look at post number 1701 from you, just to see if I could manage any type of a Star Trek reference, and lo and behold, you provide a gorgeous shot from Captain James T. Kirk's home state! How cool is that! A bit of dialogue from Star Trek IV immediately popped into mind. Gillian: Let me guess, you're from outer space! Kirk: No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space. Yeah, my mind goes there, sometimes...wherever there happens to be. This is a great shot! I like it immensely.

Lovely countryside unless your car won't start (old memory). You didn't drive through Grinnell by any chance? In Andrea's defense the states due tend to have similar shapes in that part of the country. And the serendipity between you and Chip is hilarious.

Great capture Tara. It looks a little like Amish country, at least to me. Interesting info as to the flooding - and here we are in Phoenix, Arizona with 2.62 inches so far this year.
