Description

At first I could not determine what this bird is called, but thanks to RHMagnussn I linked my photo with a name. I took the photo in Burgers Zoo (Arnhem/ NL)

I did a quick Google search which led me to an image of a bird similar to yours, although nowhere as well photographed, on the forums of a site called WhatBird. The user Dorothy seems to classify it as either a Painted Bunting or an Eastern Bluebird, saying one of the signature colors of the former is green on the back, which is clear in your photo, so it may be a Painted Bunting. I have some pics in my gallery. I expect them to be returning for their winter stay in Florida any day now, along with Indigo Buntings. This is a wonderful, close-up image of a bird every birdwatcher wants to see. I guess a zoo is the only place many people will ever get to see one, unless they are very fortunate.
