What's a man to do when his mates took off and left him? Well, maybe Lucinus was a bit drunk and didn't make it to the ship on time. Maybe. Maybe he just didn't like the sea all that much. He did like the pirate aspect of it though. Easy money. He just had to be patient...that's all.
