Description
Medusa, one of the 3 Gorgon sisters in Greek Mythology. All were the children of the ancient marine deities Phorcys (Phorkys) and his sister Ceto (Keto), chthonic monitors from an archaic world. Gazing directly upon her would turn onlookers to stone. The only mortal Gorgon, Medusa was beheaded by the hero Perseus, who thereafter used her head as a weapon until he gave it to the goddess Athena to place on her shield. In a late version of the Medusa myth, related by the Roman poet Ovid (43 BC to AD 17/18), Medusa was originally a ravishingly beautiful maiden, "the jealous aspiration of many suitors", priestess in Athena's temple, but when Poseidon raped her in Athena's temple, the enraged Athena, choosing not to punish Poseidon, transformed Medusa's beautiful hair to serpents and made her face so terrible to behold that the mere sight of it would turn onlookers to stone.
Here is my interpretation of Medusa, I hope you like her.
Am I just crazy or does her face have a slight resemblance to CSI:NY's actress Melina Kanakaredes? :)
