Description

Geoff asked if all the Parachutist landed safely. There was an accident when the first parachutist of a Parachute Battalion from bBloemfontein dit the first jump on the Waterkloof Air Force Base Air Show. Here is a link regarding the accident. A display of the country’s air force might was nearly marred by tragedy when 14 army parachutists escaped death and serious injury after a near-fatal parachuting disaster at a Pretoria air show. The 14 paratroopers from 44 Parachute Regiment in Bloemfontein were taking part in a mass jump at the Waterkloof Air Show on Saturday, which was attended by nearly 50 000 spectators. http://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/gauteng/parachutists-escape-death-at-air-show-1.1149057 The near-disaster struck when the parachutists took part in a mass jump at the start of the air show. It is believed that strong winds blew the 14 off their drop zone with several slamming hard into the ground and a number of stationary aircraft which were scheduled to take part in the show.
