Description

36" image so feel free to zoom in. Next weekend my Shamrock III & Dry-dock model should be available from Cornucopia3D. I still have a read-me to add providing user information om my approach to textures and bump mapping. I normally adjust these, scale and bump per camera angle and especially atmospherics. This is my current Canvas WIP using the model. While this is fairly close, I will start to add figures to the decks. Looking back to the turn of the century I am finding that crew were not hanging over the sides as they do today... rather the crew...in the mid fifties in number, laid side by side on the deck near the side in question. While the distant followers will be easier to do, the foreground figures will really push me to work with each figure, face, position to deck more then any effort I have done.. therefore I am finally pulling and dusting off my copy of Marvelous Designer to create the rather plain white outfits so they hand correctly. I hope this might inspire so of you sailors out there. Posing figures may stop a number of you from trying a scene like this....certainly not the buy, import and render type effort, but it is a good way to push us in our creative efforts. Anyway, one can always forget the figures and do a racing scene where we match many of the still available photographs from 1903.

You can take the sailor from the sea, but not the sea from the sailor. This is magnificent and stirring, really great work.
