It splits open along it's upper back, if you zoom you can see the edges where it opened. :) I had to go into the house to get my camera when I saw this or I could have gotten a shot of it while it was squeezing out.

What a shot! I love cicadas, especially the annuals! This one has some of the best colors I've seen...but then they're fresh and new and still damp! Wonderful shot! I love their opera-singing techniques...for as loud as they actually are, hearing them is actually relaxing. Wonderful shot of one of my favorite insects...well...I have zillions of favorite insects, but these are among my favorite docile ones! Excellent work in spotting and capturing this beauty! It's a great dedication, too...
