Description
“Tradition is a guide and not a jailer”
~ William Somerset Maugham (English writer, 1874-1965)
The Hierophant, in many Tarot decks, is represented by a bishop or other male priest. The card represents conformity, tradition, structure, and ideas rooted in history. I took this idea of "tradition" and tailored it to my own experience, creating an image that represents what tradition represents in my own life. I also feel it is important to take the pressures of others' expectations and judge them against one's own priorities. Therefore, I was careful to include my own "thumbprint" on the idea of conformity and history. Knowing where you came from is important. Knowing where you are going is more important.
