Description

For a while, I'm going to post some images from closer to home, starting with the Hill Country in the heart of Texas. The Hill Country is a area that stretches from just north of Austin, Texas (the state capital), down to San Antonio, and west about 200 miles (322 kilometers). It is a beautiful area with a lot to see. It has rolling hills, wildflowers (especially in good rain years), caves, cattle ranches (suffering under the current drought), vineyards, great state parks, historical sites and a rich cultural heritage. In 2010, we had a wet winter and a glorious spring. As often as I could, I took off and drove around the Hill Country, looking for wildflowers (and finding lots of them) and just enjoying the beauty of the area. This was taken about 100 miles (161 kilometers) north of San Antonio. Thanks for viewing and for previous comments and favs!

Strangely enough, I have never imagined Texas to look anything like this, so lush and green! - as an outsider one always thinks of Oil-drills/borers/machinery etc. Actually I was thinking of the famous movie scenes from 'East of Eden'... and thanks for converting, from miles to kilometers ;-) BB

I forgot how beautiful Texas can be. You've captured very well. All I've ever seen of the state is the panhandle and Dallas airport. Looking forward to further pictures.

Really pretty. Love the light. Kind of like just before a storm. Thank you for visiting my gallery and leaving all those thoughtful comments. {{{hugs}}}

My dad built his house in the rural outskirts of Killeen - about 35 miles north of Austin. Really beautiful country. This is a wonderful photo capture - looks like they're about to get some much needed rain! Thanks for the smile, its been way too long since I went back...

Bright sun mixed with dark clouds create a wonderful series of contrasts and colours. And this scene is very colourful. I like those two standing stones which look like they might have been terribly important decades ago but largely neglected now. Nature seems ready to topple them in the next 25 years or so.

I just love he lightplay here, it gives the whole picture a very painterly quality. Your beautifully structured comments mean so much to me, your keen observation and interest in my offerings are a constant source of inspiration, so good to have you recognise the things in a picture that i strive to include. I'm finding time to comment to be a rarecommodity at the moment, but i'm doing my best. Best wishes Alan
