You might spot me at Kirra Beach, the South-Eastern end of the Gold Coast, Australia, if you like beach walking like myself... but there is more ! My son Jeff (*jif3d*, here at Rendo, it helps to advertise, ooops)... he took this pic of me in 2000, then manipulated it in photo-shop and it's still one of my favourites. Just very briefly about my past... *born in East Prussia; *grew up in Berlin, West Germany; *migrated to "OZ" in 1960, (not the Wizard of Oz) but...AUSTRALIA ! I guess I was more into '2D' since early childhood, and thinking that my son Jeff may have inherited some of my artistic skills, because he translated them into '3D'. I am hooked on photography, since I discovered cameras... that's it in a nutshell. BTW - one of my fav.quotes.... ** I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure - which is trying to please everybody !** that's a wrap... Cheers Brigitte.

I had acouple of them living in my garden once. They are funny, slow and very stiff, as waiters in an elegant restaurant.LOL Excellents captures

ENORMOUS! what a find..good thing you weren't pruning! I once kept some Australian stick insects which I don't think were this species. They were Extatosoma tiaratum, the Giant Spiny stick insect, and they can grow to about 15cms although mine didn't. Anyway they were called Joss, Evo, Joy and Un.

The wing are like a dinner jacket or a vest. It is probably female (larger than male) and is at the top of the size list. great picture as always. You live in a great area I am jealous.

Here in the States Belly Up usually means deceased so I was expecting something more tragic. Still having trouble telling where she ends and the tree begins. Outstanding find and pictures. The wings don't look as if they could lift her. Perhaps she was just dressed up and pretending to be a fairy princess?

Great capture of this guy "sticking around" in your garden, Brigitte! Maybe it is difficult for him too, to know what are sticks and what are his own legs! ;o)

What superb cammoflage he has and he certainly sounds to be a big one. We have them here too, though I haven't seen one as big as this one. What great wings he has and your captures let me see all his details. I'm glad he didn't mind his picture being taken. I'm sorry your rugby team had a bad night last night but I am glad we have made the finals with all the hoopla and expense. I will be glad when it is over next week. Your Julia has to eat one of our apples, and say how good it tastes. lol.

Great find and capture. Never seen one of these before!

Oh my, I could barely make him out either. In fact, if you hadn't said what the shot was I probably would have wondered why you shot that stick. LOL. What a wonderful disguise. I've never seen one this big. Yikes! Wonderful find.

What an amazing creature! It looks like he has two pairs of totally ineffectual wings. Maybe he uses them like eyelashes and bats them provocatively at any young thing that passes by. Excellent captures!
