Description

First snow at Snow Bowl, San Francisco Peaks, Arizona. Elevation at this point is 9,500- (~2,900m). The ski lift starts here and goes to 11,500-ft (~3,500m). It is not enough to ski yet, but it is a beginning. Snow Bowl is trying to supplement natural snow with snow made from treated water which the Native Americans object to, since the San Francisco Peaks are one of their sacred mountains. A decision whether that will be allowed is pending, but I bet money will win. Picture taken on 9 October 2011, Sig...

Use to live in Flagstaff, a beautiful area. just don't like the days when the snow isn't falling vertically, but blowing by you horizontally! Thanks for the Coconino memories!

Wonderful capture!!! Colorado had it's first snowfall a few days ago, so all the ski areas started making artificial snow because with cooler temps it will now support their attemps.

A very beautiful capture with marvellous clarity. Yes we make artificial snow down here too on the mountains as sometimes we don't get enough for the skiing.

Nice shootin' Sig. We are sitting where we can see Pike's Peak...a bit of snow up there but nothing big yet. I'll bet the skiing is good at the SF Mountains. We drove past them the day we visited Grand Canyon last July.
