Description

This is a portrait picture of my late Father, Major Garry Duffy MC RE who rescued 30 American nurses and other military personnel in Albania, after they crash landed in very poor weather. This 1957 copy of For Men Only is still in my possesion. Let me tell you, the clothing they are purportedly wearing, does not resemble the actual outfit used on the trek in the slightest. I have original pictures of them all marching and there isn't a pair of stockings, or short skirt, or high heels to be seen! lol As Mike says, my Dad would have been a sitting target in that checked outfit. To the best of my knowledge, he wore plain Khaki. Their mission, was to attend to wounded American seamen, who had been wounded aboard ship, in the Yugoslavia area. There are several books written already about my Father's exploits and it is detailed that he trekked over 100 miles of mountainous territory, avoiding German miltary, with only the help of the supllies of friendly Partisan Albanian countrymen. I have been approached by an American journalist, who has asked my permission to publish an account of my Father's exploits in considerable detail and in so doing, has approached the British Military SOE freedom of information beaureau for classified information, which can be released once I send them proof of my Father's death. You can read the full story here:- http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0813191572/ref=sib_dp_pt/185-8920259-9909463#reader-link This has stirred a lot of precious and cherished happy memories I can tell you! Thank you for all the excellent comments. It is my Father (God bless him) who deserves the praise, I just scanned the magazine! lol Steve ;)

This looks like a HUGE puzzle piece in your life.... If everyone has "15 minutes of fame", this was probably your Father's. I love this cover art. This Journalist that wants to make a book, I say GO IN PARTNERSHIP WITH them. You do the final proof read... either at the begining or the end, you put your emotional ties with this in writing. Do a picture similare to this in poser... there was a very good artist here that mimiced this style and could probably give you something fantastic.... the name of the artist starts with a P, and I have that info somewhere - if ya want it later, ask and I'll look, I want to say their name was Platin - haven't seen them here this last year, but their style is similat to this and they are into "war art", "sexy women" - right up your alley, perfect for this project..... I think the cover should look really close to this - more women... did your Dad have a red plad shirt??? Just seems like a "target" when you'd think he'd be wearing camo or military issue clothing. on the back side of the book, I think you should have a black and white of you and the writer sitting down talking to each other..... on the front, and back, you should have a reference to you Steve - ....the title you have here, just might be the perfect title to sell this book.... look up platin and see if I was right (I think I am), print this out, brainstorm over this, come up with ideas - I think this journalist that you talk to, you should get a rather sizable cut for it was your Dad that the story is about... and for your contribution - as an artist/writer point of view, I think the Journalist should receive a rather sizable cut for their work on this.... Print this out, show it to the Journalist, let them read it and then both of you to discuss the next step and hopefully I helped you GET MORE INVOLVED with this - I think it's a calling - The title you gave this did "grab me" and you know we see lots of titles here - I'd heavily be in favor of this title for the book.... but, I have no idea what the title your journalist has in mind.... please give us updates on this, it sounds exciting - I hope you and the journalist create a top seller that possibly is made into a movie in the future - good luck.

The story of how your father achieve the rescue is incredible and he certainly deserves recognition StevieB. It will be so interesting to see how everything unfolds and how long it takes and I hope we get to see the finished product it will be a nice keepsake for our family and something for your children and our grand children to treasure. I hope they are brought up with the same values they had back then :) Cathy xoxoxo

Fantastic story, and a great man might get important recognition. Don't forget to in pssist on a movie rights clause. It looks like a perfect vehicle for an action star, perhaps Bruce Willis or someone like that. PS, you gotta love this magazine cover. I can see why it is such a chyuerished possession.
