I was inspired to create this piece after a short story written by Frank Belknap Long called "The Hounds of Tindalos," which was based off of a story by H.P. Lovecraft titled "The Whisperer in Darkness" where they are initially mentioned. The hounds moved through the angles of time, whereas humans and other creatures move through time's curves. This allowed the hounds to emerge from corners in walls and such, appearing as smoke and then emerging. I tried to get a similar feel for my "thing" in this image. A creature emerging out of a blackened corner. Most interesting to me is the fact that the overall image appears to be out of a dream or nightmare reality, where in all of the angles and corners in the image are already somewhat skewed.
