Description

A dedication to mon ami, Jock500 who seems to be enjoying this series. Bon jour, amigo! ;-) Final fly-past of the VAL and ZERO. This perspective takes in the forward 3" DP gun and it looks as if that gunner is involved in the situation. I'm not sure but I could swear I heard clanking every time this gun fired -- as if a shell casing had hit the deck. The 20 mm guns were basically noise makers and did not spew casings. Well, wave sayonara to the pilots until the next heritage cruise of SS JOHN W BROWN. The VAL D3A type 99 replica is owned and flown by Ken Laird. Its markings are those of the air wing of SORYU during the Pearl Harbor attack. The ZERO A6M conversion (from a Yak-52) is owned and flown by Charlie Lynch. The B-25J is owned by Mid Atlantic Air Museum, Reading, PA and flown by Russ Strine. This bird "Briefing Time" flew 126 combat missions in WW2. The BROWN had just turned 69, the B-25 is probably not too far ahead or behind that age. These are vid caps from my camer which I'm using for the first time as a video camera... expect some shake in the related youtube posts given in reference. The shake actually is reminiscent of some combat footage where the photog is trying to do a CYA maneuver during actual strafings. Enjoy this section of the cruise/tour. As always: thanks for viewing and commenting.
