Description

"The Blue Ice Caves... Franz Josef Glacier" For Denise who can't wait for it to get cold!! South Island, New Zealand This Glacier has so many blue caves and crevices it was unreal. The weather changes constantly and the previous day it had poured rain continuously freezing everyone caught on the ice. I decided on taking the helicopter to the glacier top and checking out the caves etc. that way. And of course the weather cooperated and it was Blue Skies and warm enough to remove jackets etc. Sorry Denise..even this wasn't cold!!

I was hoping you would share a blue ice/cave shot! So amazing! I can't imagine even being there, how incredible for you~ The mind can almost not even grasp how old this water is and the very different Earth it fell on. Scientists take samples of the old glacial ice and melt it, capturing the air from the microbubbles then they analyze what the air was like millions of years ago. Lovely image!

Oh, but it's so amazingly beautiful, I absolutely love the colour of glacier ice. I imagine if you stayed long enough you'd get cold eventually...but with my luck the whole darn thing would melt while I was watching! Thank you so much for this dedi, Bruce!
