Description
This is the Orthodox chapel close-up at Fort Ross, California. This fort was built around 1811 by the Russian Orthodox that migrated to this country for the fur trade. Yesterday, I posted the bell that is at the front of this chapel. St. Peter the Aleut stopped here on the way to San Francisco where he was tortured and ultimately martyred by the Franciscans because he would not renounce his Orthodox faith. Trust Andrea to see the guys' shirt! Wonderful image of this lovely old church. I just always cringe when I see wooden buildings like this - it is such a fire hazard. We have mainly brick building here in South Africa!
